YAYRA GOT BAPTIZED and other stories

Image
Good morning everyone! I sure love you all. This week was so great. I feel like I rediscovered the joy of the work and had so many great experiences, especially in my studies and in our teaching. I also discovered that Sierra Leonian cassava leaf stew has the highest nurturing to delicious ratio I've ever seen. It might look a little like a cowpie, but it's so good.  Before that though, great news: YAYRA GOT BAPTIZED YESTERDAY! It was so special. We had some long talks about her with our mission president and her mom and they both gave us the go ahead to open heaven's gate for her through baptism. It was such a special, holy experience. I'm so proud of Yayra and her desire to do the right thing!  That was Sunday, which was yesterday. Before that a lot of other good stuff also happened. We went to Ntiamoah, that small village that we cover, again on Tuesday and it was really nice. Abraham and Isaac, two brothers who are members, helped us translate and showed us around

Growing Pains and the Gathering of Israel

Good morning everybody! This week was not the easiest week of my mission, but I learned a lot. And we had a devotional on Tuesday with Elder Klebingat of the 70 that changed my mission.  I'll start with that. It was such an inspiring meeting. He taught us about finding the elect and about the gathering of Israel. One thing I didn't know is that the house of Israel is an actual group of people that are more likely to receive the gospel and recognize the truth when they hear it. Elder Klebingat taught us that we shouldn't waste time with people who aren't like that. If people won't keep commitments of reading the Book of Mormon, praying, keeping commandments, or coming to church, we should politely tell them that they can find us after church on any given Sunday if they want to continue learning. And that we shouldn't teach people that didn't read the assigned reading. We should just read it with them and go.  He also taught us that we need to use the Book o

Dead Lizard in My Socks and the Spirit in My Heart

Good morning everybody! This email is coming a lot earlier than it normally does but I hope you all enjoy. This week was such a blast. We spent a lot of time in the Lord's vineyard and had an awesome zone conference as well.  In reference to the title (because sometimes I write a catchy hook title and then forget to talk about it in my email), my sock/handkerchief/underwear drawer (to clarify, that's only one drawer) was making my clothes smell bad and I didn't know why. Like all the clothes in there smelled super bad even though I had just washed them. Finally, I took everything out, and lo and behold there was a dead and decaying lizard on one of my socks! It was quite the experience, but I'm glad I got it fixed. Hopefully my socks will smell better this week.  Putting deceased reptiles aside, I loved this week. Zone conference was incredible! It was President Morrison's second to last zone conference and he knew it. There was a lot of urgency to what he said an

Good morning everybody. This has been the most eventful week I've had in awhile. I've learned a lot and learned that I've still got a lot to learn.  Tuesday was my last day in Takoradi. That feels like it was a long time ago, but we're still enjoying. We said bye to a ton of people and took some fun pictures, which I'll hopefully get by the end of the day. They're on the phone in my last area.  The transfer meeting was good. It was so nice to see people around the mission that I haven't seen in a while. And seeing President and Sister Morrison was also good.  I was also called to be a zone leader, which was a surprise. Usually, President tells you before the transfer meeting but he just told me day of. I've heard that the Lord qualifies those that he calls, but this will definitely put that to the test.  My new area and companion are good though. I'm with Elder Fatoma in a place called Praso. It's a smaller town kind of in the middle of nowhere

Good morning everyone! This week was really wonderful. We had some big miracles.  First of all, David and James are doing amazing. They're the kids I wrote about in my last email whose parents are returning members. Their dad still hasn't come to church yet but they've come to church with their mom the past 2 Sundays! And they're such good guys. David is 16 and James is 11 but they both read everything we ask them to read and seem to be understanding everything pretty well. They were really shy at first but now seem to be warming up to us, especially David. He even let Elder Bukasa take a joy ride on his bicycle. Or maybe Elder Bukasa just took a joy ride on his bicycle and he didn't say anything. Either way, things are going well with them and we're planning to extend a baptismal date to them tomorrow.  Also, I'm going on transfer! That's another big news. I'm super sad to be going, but it feels right. I'll miss Elder Bukasa so much, but I know
