Chicken Bones and Amazing Members

Hello my friends! Good morning. I hope everything is well with all of you. Thank you all for your prayers and emails. I know that they sustain me.

In this week's email,  I want to tell you about the people of Cape Coast 2nd Ward. There is so much faith here. I've never seen poverty in the US like I have in Ghana, but people are so much happier here. And they're way friendlier! Almost everyone we've talked to attends a church every Sunday. If someone is already committed to Christ and willing to put in the work to follow him, it's a lot easier to teach them.

And the members! Holy cow they're incredible. There are a few I want to highlight: Brother Michael, Sister Sarah, and our friend Paul.

Brother Michael is the only member among his siblings. He was converted to the gospel in 2013ish and served a mission soon after. When he returned from his mission, his number one goal was to help his family receive the gospel. And he's doing that! We've been teaching his sister, Helena, and his brother, Kobena, the gospel, and Helena has a baptismal date! Brother Michael translates those lessons for us since his siblings only speak Fante, and he also helps us translate for several other people. It's great.

Next is Sister Sarah. She's in her mid-60s or 70s, but she still comes with us to teach her friends almost every week. If spunk and power were a person, that person would be Sister Sarah.

Paul is the next amazing member I want to talk about. He's 21, works as an elementary school teacher, and is preparing to serve a mission. We went out teaching with him yesterday and WOW is he incredible. Cape Coast is a very confusing place in terms of alleys and side streets and hidden houses, but Paul knows all of them. We zoomed around town trying to keep up with him, getting phone numbers and addresses as fast as we could. We're excited to continue teaching with him.

Also, in unrelated news, I've started eating chicken bones! That's a thing that people do here that really weirded me out at first, but it's actually kinda fun. You just kinda crunch and go and you feel really thrifty. Next time you're eating chicken legs give it a try. It's way better than you think.

I love and miss you all! Go meet your missionaries and see how you can help them this week.

Love,
Elder Johnson

Pictures:
1. I took this one the other night. This city is beautiful!
2. Me and Elder Nzweme. He's my zone leader and also stays with me and Elder Komiha. He's the coolest guy ever. Also, he got a wisdom tooth out this week and it took FOUR HOURS! Modern medicine is a blessing that I've always taken for granted.
3. Me and Elder Komiha at zone conference. I hope you enjoy my cool guy sandals in both this picture and the last one. 😎 also that frozen yogurt in eating is the best thing ever. They put everything in bags here, even water!
4. Me with a bag of water (as proof). That's all most people drink here. It's like a gogurt, but instead of yogurt, it's water.
5. From left to right: Elder Nzweme, Elder Juliasse, me, and Elder Komiha.
6. Everyone in the last pic plus Elder Gassaway (left) and our district leader, Elder Peterson (right).
7. Remix of above plus another Elder who is really nice whose name I can't recall.
Thanks for reading! The next email will be shorter I hope.
