Breaking news: you can't force someone to accept the truth of the restored gospel

Hello everyone! Despite the slightly unhinged title, this week was great. We received some sad news though! Elder Cluff, our zone leader who we live with who is also one of the funniest/coolest elders that I know, is going on transfer! We were all really surprised because he's only been here for one transfer, but God's plan is perfect. He's going to go do great things I'm sure.

That's going to really change things around here, but I'm sure it'll all be fine. I'm still in the promised land with the best companion ever so life is good.

This week we had some big blessings. We were able to sit down with Francis, the one who kind of broke our hearts last week, and figure out what was going on. We just wanted to know what caused the shift from I've-come-to-church-for-three-straight-weeks-and-I-want-to-be-baptized to I-don't-want-to-come-to-church-or-be-baptized-please-stop-asking. He kind of danced around the issue, telling us that the taxi fare was too expensive, he's too busy, etc., but then finally told us the truth. And the truth is, he's not ready to change. He's not ready to leave it all behind. He told us that he'll just start going to another church because he can go be baptized into a different church and still gamble, drink, and enjoy. He said we can still come and teach him, but that he's done coming to church and doesn't want to get baptized anymore. I honestly felt a lot of peace about it. No matter how much we want to help him, we can't force him to change. It's up to him.

We also had some great examples of people choosing to accept the gospel. Our buddy Daniel totally accepted the restoration after Elder Bukasa whipped out the bible and resolved his concerns about a man seeing God (cause Moses spoke to God face-to-face) and said he would come to church next Sunday. Our friend Bernice also came to church in time for sacrament meeting! She's come to church a lot but never on time for the sacrament, but she committed to come on time and she beat us there! It was awesome.

We also had an awesome p-day. We played basketball again, and I kinda wrecked my knees cause I fell down, but it was a good time. We also tried to go and see monkeys but we didn't see any. Sad day. Then we went proselyting and it was great.

Sorry this email was a bit of a scatter. I sure love you all and I know the gospel is true. Use your agency to choose to accept the restored gospel every day and amazing things will happen.

Love,
Elder Johnson
