Transfer Boss Gets Transferred
First of all, on Tuesday we were able to go to Ntiamoah (our small village). It was really cool. Our buddy Isaac just got called as group leader there, and he's so on it. He wants Ntiamoah to be a branch before the end of the year, which is a really big goal, but we're excited to help him do it. We had some good lessons throughout the day and ate some nice fufu with Isaac and his family before we left. Unfortunately, the van going back to town came just as we started eating so we had to eat really fast, but it was still really delicious. I love Ghana. The whole van waited for us to eat our food before leaving.
Wednesday was the major highlight of the week. Every six weeks we have zone conference, which is an all day gathering of 3 zones of about 10-20 missionaries each where we are trained, inspired, and fed. That's how it normally is.
However, because President Morrison (our mission president) is going to leave soon, he decided to make this zone conference a mission-wide meeting. So all the missionaries in the mission came for it.
It was so wonderful! I got to see Elder Bukasa, Elder Seeley, and Elder Fatoma, my former companions, as well as so many other missionaries I've served around. We took a ton of pictures and we got to receive one last training from President and Sister Morrison.
I will miss them so much. President Morrison cried so much during his training. In his last words to us, he taught us about focusing on our purpose, which is to invite others come unto Christ by helping them receive His restored gospel. He talked about how baptism is at the center of Christ's gospel, and how without a correct baptism, you can't enter the kingdom of God. He taught about how scheduling is not planning: our plans should rather match our goals for those we are teaching.
We learned a lot. President gave each Elder a super nice Kente cloth tie and each sister a kente scarf as going away gifts, and he also gave us each a chicken schwarma for the road. I was excited about both of those things.
I will really miss President and Sister Morrison. I thought they'd be my mission leaders for my whole two years but God had other plans. President Morrison is a man of God. Every area and every companion he has sent me to has been exactly what I needed to grow, progress, and thrive. His trainings, councils, and inspired decisions have always been the right thing at the right time. Over the past year, he has quieted my fears, answered my questions, and helped me correct my mistakes. He's been an unparalleled example of obedience and faithfulness, as well as an example of how a priesthood holder, husband, and father should conduct themselves.
Sister Morrison has taught us, fed us, and loved us over the last year. I'm so grateful for her love and correction. She doesn't put up with any nonsense but I can always feel her love and care through it all.
The work goes on, even when leaders and companions change. I've learned that a lot this week. Elder Barile and I have been adjusting to each other, and it hasn't been super easy. I've learned that I have a lot of weaknesses that I need to work on. There's a lot about me that needs me to change. However, I know that the Lord can change me if I let Him. I know that my weaknesses can become my strengths if I let them. Pride is poisonous, and I need to let go of mine and put the people in front of the work. The people are the work.
Anyways, I love you all! Change and repentance are a constant process, not a destination. Have a great week.
Love,
Elder Johnson
1. Me and Elders Alusa, Amevor, and Barile in Hemang for a Baptismal interview. Comfort, the woman we interviewed, was baptized this Sunday!
2-3. Jack Johnson, our member Thecla's dog. We love him so much and I think he returns our affection. He's always really happy to see us.
4. At zone conference we took pictures by country. Elder Seeley and I decided to take a father-son pic with the flag after we finished.
5-7. I SAW ELDER BUKASA! How I love and miss this Elder. He's doing great and he told me I need to eat more.
8. The Praso zone about to eat.
9. The Praso zone looking fresh.
10. Me and Elder Reeves, the Liberian legend
11. Me and Elder Sampson, the Nigerian legend
12. Elder Barile pounding some fufu. He's my strongest companion so far by far. It's a little intimidating at times.
