Bad Analogies and the Atlantic
Hey everyone! I sure love and miss you all. This week was kind of like eating candy corn-- not your favourite thing ever but you just keep on eating because it's nicer than not eating. And before you realize it the bag is gone and you've eaten it all!
That's what this week felt like. We had some great moments and some rougher moments but we never stopped moving. We finished the bag/week, and we're ready for another one.
Anyways, I have more to share than bad analogies. This week had some really sweet moments in it. I learned some things this week that I would like to share.
The first is that God is aware of us and gives us what we need exactly when we need it.
I learned this in many different ways this week. On Wednesday we had an exchange with the APs so we traveled to Cape Coast. On the tro ride there I was feeling so, so down. I was just thinking too much and didn't have anything to do and was feeling sorry for myself. I prayed in that moment to feel happy. As simple as that. After praying in my mind, I felt prompted to check my email right away. Right then I received an awesome email from my angel sister Carolina that gave me the boost I needed to get through my lil slump. And the exchange was just wonderful. I was with Elder Niangbo who is one of the greatest guys ever. I have so much respect and love for that man. My goodness. At the end of the exchange, I shared with him some of the things we're struggling with and he offered the greatest council and gave me a hug after. I had been trying to do things alone and I didn't need to. If you need help, ask for it! That doesn't mean you're weak. Even Jesus asked for help. God is aware of us!
We had an exchange on Friday as well that helped me see this even more. I was with Elder Alusah from Utah. He's such a cool guy and we had a great time and learned a lot from each other. We were trying to go to Ntiamoah, our favourite village, but we missed the van and had to wait for 2 hours for the next one! However, we had great talks and were able to have a wonderful lesson with Eric, a young man we're teaching once we got to Ntiamoah. It was such a good day and was really good for me.
Speaking of really good lessons/awesome people, our friend Nicholas came to church for the first time yesterday! It was so awesome. From the first lesson he's grasped the restoration and is so willing to act on it. He's been praying to know if it's true and he came to church on Sunday. It was so great to see him there. I really like him a lot.
We also had an activity about family history on Sunday with our branch that two people we are teaching came to! It was great.
I know this gospel is true and that it's here to bless our today as much as it is here to bless our eternity. Peace comes from following Christ.
On exchange Elder Alusah and I had a great experience. While we were waiting for the bus to Ntiamoah the first time, we were doing some finding, knocking on doors and trying to talk to people. We went to one house and someone said, "Hi Elder Johnson!". It turns out we had stumbled on the house of Prince, an awesome guy the sisters are teaching who I've met before. We had a great talk, and he shared how much the gospel has been helping him. He even said that he was planning to move from Praso, but now that he's getting baptized he'll stay. We asked him if he knew anyone we should go teach and he showed us to like 5 people! He's so ready to work and his testimony shows.
And he was baptized this Sunday! Watching people follow Christ is so fulfilling. And serving out of love is the best way to serve. I really learned that this week.
This is a little scrambled I know, but it's well intentioned. I love you all and pray for you daily.
Love,
Elder Johnson
1-2. Me, Elder Barile, Elder Niangbo, Elder Rassmussen, and Elder Huefner during our exchange on Thursday at the office. Fun fact: Elder Huefner was one of my MTC companions like 13 months ago. Now we're old men.
3. Me, Elder Niangbo, and the Atlantic. I love this man. And the Atlantic.
4. Me in front of Twipass high school where we have church for the students every Sunday. They're such good kids.
5. Elder Reeves, Elder Sampson, Elder Barile, and me in Nuamakrom, Elder Barile's first area. We went to visit there today.
6-8. Us and Prince, the awesome guy mentioned above.
