To Whom Shall We Go?
Good afternoon my friends! I hope you're doing great. Elder Momoh and I sure are. Life is great in Elubo.
We've been seeing a lot of success lately that just came out of nowhere. For the past few weeks we've really struggled to find new people to teach, which I have never before had a problem with on my mission, because Ghanaians are awesome and love hearing the gospel. For whatever reason though, we've struggled to find for the past few weeks. However, this week we were able to find a lot of new people and have really great lessons with them. That was a big tender mercy from God.
Our friend Isaac is also doing so well. He said he wants to get baptized! We're excited for him. He's very humble and ready to learn. His English is kind of small but we've been able to manage without a translator the past few times. I just talk really slow and pray a lot and he seems to understand. We call members if he has questions we can't answer. All in all, things are really good. Gifty is also doing well but she had to leave town this week because her mom is sick. Pray for her and her mom so she can come back soon!
I've also really been enjoying Elder Momoh a lot lately. He's awesome. He's really taught me how to laugh. When things are hard or something is not easy, he doesn't complain. He laughs! Not like in a disrespectful way or anything. Just a purely happy, genuine way. And it's really hard not to join him when he laughs. It's awesome.
I've thought a lot about 2 Samuel 24:24 and John 6:68 this week. I would copy and paste them here but I personally have a bad tendency of skipping quotations in people's missionary emails and so if the Spirit touches you to read them, read them. The gist of it to me is that being a missionary is really cool but also really hard and that's OK. It's supposed to be a sacrifice. Not YSA camp.
And it's not just missionary work. Discipleship is hard. Living the law of chastity or word of wisdom or paying our tithing is hard. But it's worth it. There's no other path to eternal life than the one Jesus blazed for us. His atonement was hard, but he still did it out of love for us. I've been studying the Book of Mormon looking for references to the atonement and I'm blown away by what I read. He did all that for us. It is well within his rights to expect a small amount of sacrifice and obedience from us. And even if it's hard, that's OK. Like David said, "Neither will I offer burnt offerings (or a mission, or obedience to commandments, or service to others) unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing." I love you all!
Love,
Elder Johnson
