Greatest Temporal Achievement of My Life
Good morning everyone! This week was wild and so wonderful. Let me give you some highlights.
This week we got a call at 6:25 a.m. from our branch president asking us to come help move our materials into our new chapel. Our new chapel has been ready for a long time but there's been different problems that have prevented us from moving there. We were thrilled to go help. Our old chapel is the top floor of an apartment building owned by a supposed madman with a bad reputation and it sometimes detracts from our sacrament attendance. So we were excited to finally move.
Our new chapel is so nice! It's right in the middle of town next to the main road and everything is new and nice and I'm really excited to see how that'll help the work move. We also put up our sign board using tape and cement blocks (see picture). As I taped the signboard to the railing, I felt the greatness of this work. Things are just starting in Elubo, but they just started in Palmyra once too. I think God has big plans for Ghana.
We also had zone conference this week which was incredible. I need to improve my studies and enjoy the work more. President Morgan is inspired.
In reference to the title, the greatest temporal achievement of my life so far happened at zone conference. ELDER MOMOH AND I WON CLEANEST APARTMENT IN THE AXIM ZONE FOR LAST TRANSFER. It was awesome. Every transfer they pick one apartment in each zone based on the videos of our clean apartments each Monday morning and we won! It was pretty incredible.
Speaking of incredible things, on Wednesday we had a crazy miracle. We were passing by the hospital where we are teaching some people and we saw them calling us. We were going somewhere and I felt like hitting them with the "We'll go and come," a trusted Ghanaian favourite, and then continuing on to our destination. Luckily my companion was in tune with the Spirit and said we should just go see what they wanted, so we did.
We got there and were just kind of talking with some of the people there (it turns out they were just bored and wanted to talk), when a really strong-looking guy came up and asked us who we were. We explained that we were missionaries for Jesus Christ's church and that we teach people about Him. He recognized the name of the church and said that he'd been looking for the church but hadn't seen it in Elubo. We asked him if we could teach him right then and he said yes. He took us to his office in the hospital and we taught him the message of the restoration and gave him a Book of Mormon. He read it, prayed about it, and came to church! Not only that, he bore his testimony and said that he'll be a member of the Church from now on. I'm so excited for Alfred. We're going to teach him again on Thursday.
God is there. I've felt that so much this week. And this is His work. And it's supposed to be enjoyed! At zone conference we learned about hearing the music of the gospel. President and Morgan did the cha-cha in front of us without music and it was kind of awkward. They then added music and it was awesome. They likened that to going through the motions of the gospel without feeling the Spirit and joy of the gospel. The joy and the Spirit is what makes it wonderful.
I want to enjoy missionary work more. I'm not saying I want to be apostate and not work hard but I'm trying to focus on the joy of the work more and less on the grind. It's been awesome. I've felt really happy this week, my studies have been better, and I feel like I'm building better relationships. It's awesome.
I love you all! Have a great week.
Love,
Elder Johnson
