The Process of Growth

Good evening everybody! I hope you're all doing good. This was a great week. I learned a lot about missionary work and life this week.

It started with zone council on Tuesday. It was super nice. Our zone leaders are powerful. Elder Bukasa and I also gave a training on following up that I think went really well. It was fun to prepare for and give. We first did a role play on how not to follow up where we took away the person's pamphlet and stormed off and then one in the correct way to follow up. It was fun. We also both felt that we need to work with members more.

We also started teaching David and James, two boys whose parents are returning members, and it's been going super well. They're both super open to the gospel and are down to learn. After each lesson we give them a page to read in the pamphlet to read before next time and James, the younger of the two, has read every place we've given him. Tonight we taught them after giving them the page about how priesthood power and the true Church of Jesus Christ were restored through the prophet Joseph Smith, and it was so wonderful. James knew the whole thing before we even taught them from reading the pamphlet and taught us and David from that. It was so awesome. I'm excited for them.

We also went on an exchange with our zone leaders, who are also our housemates, on Thursday. I went with Elder Egwatu. It was really nice. I learned from him that I need to change the way I teach. It's great to be able to eloquently throw a lesson at someone (I do this very well), but if they don't retain or remember what you teach them, it's not worth a ton. Elder Egwatu showed me that if I slow down and teach less principles more deeply, as well as ask questions to see what people understand, it'll help me. And so far it really has!

Life is good. I'm learning tons. Keep us and our people in your thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Elder Johnson
